Try 3 months for $3

William L. Smith, 77, of Baraboo, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018, at home.

He was born Jan. 1, 1941, to Harold and Maybelle Smith, in Chicago.

Bill worked for the United States Postal Service for 30 years as a clerk and carrier. He retired in 2003.

Bill was also proud of his career in retail as shoe store manager in Chicago, Utica and Niagara Falls, New York, and Jackson, Michigan.

He was an accomplished woodworker and spent some of his happiest retirement hours with The Carving Club of the Baraboo Senior Citizens Organization at the Civic Center. His other favorite activities were sailing, riding his motorcycle, and traveling with his wife Lonni Lown and pup Peaches.

He loved listening to Neil Diamond, Johnny Cash and watching the local news on Channel 3. Bill’s welcoming personality and twinkling eyes made him a favorite among postal customers and with the doctors and nurses he had to see during his illnesses. His grandchildren spent many treasured hours snuggled down on his lap. His door was always open and he was pleased to entertain friends and family.

He will be fondly remembered and missed by his large and extended family who would like to have you join them in a celebration of life from 3-5 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, at Glacier Rock Restaurant, Baraboo.

Memorials may be made to the Baraboo Senior Citizens Organization or to Agrace Hospice Care which provided professional and empathetic care during the last days of Bill’s life.
