Natalie R. Hendrickson, age 92, passed away Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019 at Haven Hills Assisted Living in Lodi, Wis.
Natalie was born at home on April 5, 1927 in Poynette the daughter of Ray and Mae (Thiessen) Hansen. She was the seventh of eight children. They had a small dairy and delivered milk and cream around Poynette by horse and wagon. She graduated from Poynette High School in 1945. On Oct. 12th, 1947 she married Roger Hendrickson in the Poynette Presbyterian Church. When Roger was called back into active duty, they moved to Madison where he served at Truax Field. In 1952, they moved back to Poynette and bought the home where Natalie was born and raised. They lived in the family home, raising their own four children there and being actively involved in the community. Natalie was a long-time member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Poynette and Eastside Lutheran Church after moving back to Madison in 1979. In 1980 their daughter and husband purchased the family home. Three generations have lived in the home from 1916 to the present, over 100 years.
Family was the most important thing in Natalie’s life. She loved to have fun with family, friends, and neighbors. Her laugh was contagious, she had a lot of wit and spirit too! She was known for her Devil’s Food Cake and Northern Baked Beans. Her work skills were very diverse…working at the canteen in the Del Monte Canning Factory in Arlington, driving school bus for Poynette Schools, being a lab technician at the Badger Army Ammunition Plant in Baraboo during the Vietnam War and eventually working at MG&E as a dispatch operator until her retirement. After retirement she and Roger traveled extensively by RV throughout the United States, their favorite place being right here in Door County, Wis. In her recent years she enjoyed reading, puzzles, visiting with staff at Haven Hills, visits especially from those with young children, Diet Coke and chocolate.
Natalie is survived by her children, Cynthia (David) Rowe of Poynette, Brad (Gail) Hendrickson of Pardeeville, April (Don, deceased) Woodruff of New London, Darcey (Andy) Pipping of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; her grandchildren, Christopher Rowe, Jenna Van Beek, Lacie Gorde, Kyle and Kelly Hendrickson, Dustin, Tara, Ryan, and Tiffany Woodruff, and Quinn Schoeneberg; her great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Marian, and Oliver Rowe, Luke and Elijah Van Beek, Austin Gorde, Trenton, Graynger, Aayden, “Little” Kelly, Baylan and Aveigha Hendrickson, Emily and Alexa Howard, Emily Woodruff-Buchanan, Elliot Woodruff-Dalton and Ellora, Natalie, Wyatt and Calista Woodruff and Hollis and Lian Schoeneberg. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Mae Hansen, and her husband Roger who passed away just five months ago after being married for 72 years. She tragically lost three of her five brothers, a sister-in-law and niece by the time Natalie was 20 years old. Many years later her two sisters and two remaining brothers and their spouses passed away, leaving Natalie the only remaining member of her family for several years. Other predeceasing her were a sister-in-law, two brothers-in law; and grandsons, Trenton Hendrickson and Ian Schoeneberg.

Elizabeth “Libby” Poser, age 97, of Columbus, passed away Nov. 21, 2019.
Libby was born on Feb. 3, 1922, in Edgerton to the late Dr. Floyd Eugene Shearer and Maybelle Elizabeth (Strasburg) Shearer. She grew up in the small town alongside her two brothers. Libby graduated from Edgerton High School and went on to the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. She taught school for a short time until she was wed to Dr. John “Bob” Poser, a surgeon and professional baseball player 12 years her senior. Bob proposed to her by slipping a ring on her finger under the dinner table at The Palmer House, a supper club in Chicago. She referred to this as the greatest memory of her life. The couple settled in Columbus and Libby became a homemaker and mother to three children. It was here that Libby was known as the best tooth-puller in town. She was so gentle that kids would come from all over town to have her yank out their loose teeth with a Kleenex. After many wonderful years in Columbus, Libby moved to Sarasota, Florida with her daughter, Ann where they spent 15 years. In 2016, they moved to Peachtree City, Georgia to be closer to her granddaughter, Sarah.
“The sweetest person you’ve ever known.” From childhood until she took her last breath, that’s how people referred to her. She epitomized Midwest niceness. She was so Midwest nice that when she met her future husband Bob, she didn’t correct him when he mistakenly called her “Libby,” instead of her real nickname “Ibby.” Instead, swept off her feet, she adopted the new name and lived as Libby for the rest of her days.
Even at age 97 she had a memory sharp as a tack and a wittier sense of humor than any of us. “I love to laugh,” she would always proclaim. She was fun to lovingly tease, because she could take it, and her comebacks always stopped you in your tracks. Libby was kind and gentle. You didn’t want her to be the one to brush your hair as a child if you were running late for school. She was so gentle and so staunchly refused to snag a single snarl that it would take her forever to get through it, one centimeter at a time.
Libby was a lifelong bridge player. She also had a knack for jigsaw puzzles. In her younger years she drove convertibles, and her kids’ friends nicknamed her “hot rod mama.” She was thoroughly ladylike. The worst word in her life she ever said was “damn!!” after accidentally dropping a glass Clamato juice bottle on her bare foot, where it shattered. As dainty as she was, you couldn’t offend her. You could talk to her about anything. The only part of “the times” with which she didn’t keep up was technology. She didn’t understand what the internet was and had no desire to try. She loved being part of the Greatest Generation and was satisfied being stuck there with no regard to technological advancements.
Libby lived for 97 years, 9 months, and 18 days. She lived all of her years with joy, dignity and grace. For her great health, an immeasurable amount of gratitude and credit goes to her tireless in-home caretaker of 17 years: her daughter, Ann.
Along with her parents, Libby was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John “Bob” Poser; brothers, Dr. Charles Shearer and Dr. Tom Shearer; and virtually all of her lifelong friends. She is survived by her children, Dr. John Poser and wife Jan of Gainesville, Florida, Ann Poser of Peachtree City, Georgia and Tom Poser and wife Susan of Pewaukee; grandchildren, Ashley Waller and husband, Chris of Gainesville, Florida, Alex Poser of Charleston, South Carolina, Sarah Worden and husband, Josh of Atlanta, Greg Poser of Mystic, Connecticut, Liz Poser of Milwaukee, and Natalie Poser of Pewaukee; one great-grandchild, June Poser-Wipke.
In accordance with Libby’s wishes, a private family service will be held in her honor in the spring. The Poser family is being assisted by Georgia Cremation, 1086 Highway 54 West, Fayetteville, Georgia. Messages of condolence may be left at GeorgiaCremation.com.

Bill was graduated from Nekoosa High School in 1944 and enlisted in the United States Navy, during World War II, and served as a Pharmacy Mate (PHM2C) from 1944-1946. After his navy service, he matriculated to St. Norbert College in De Pere, WI, but completed both his undergraduate and medical degrees (1952) from UW-Madison. Internship and residency followed at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa from 1952-1957. Dr. Richards became certified in Pathologic Anatomy and Clinical Pathology. In 1957, he founded the Beaver Dam Pathology Laboratory, which became Consultant Physicians in Pathology, S.C. Dr. Richards was joined in practice by Dr. Theodore Rowan in 1961 and subsequently by Dr. Bruce Wohlwend, Dr. Paul Glunz, Dr. Rudy Molina, and Dr. John Sullivan. Dr. Richards and his partners served on the staff of many hospitals in Southeastern Wisconsin with their central laboratory located in Beaver Dam, WI. Bill was a member and active in several medical societies as well as the University of Wisconsin alumni organization.
Bill was married to Jean M. Hansen with whom he raised four children. In August 1980, he married Sylvia Thompson in the Wayland Academy Kimberly Chapel in Beaver Dam, Wis.
Bill enjoyed sharing his love of medicine. He, along with his partners, organized the Beaver Dam Community Hospital School of Medical Technology (1963-1981). He was also co-director of the School for Certified Medical Laboratory Assistants at Waupun Hospital from 1963-1979. For several years he provided a medical education program for Wayland students for their mid-term program/senior special projects. Students were exposed to several areas of medicine through their involvement with the staff and local doctors at BDCH, and the program was the encouragement for some to enter the field of medicine. Bill also encouraged and supported other individuals to seek and make medicine their life’s work.
Bill was a joyous presence and whenever you asked him how he was he would answer “perfect!” He would say “we were all born perfect, but as we age and face life’s challenges, we sometimes forget the perfection and uniqueness of each human individual.”
Bill retired from practicing medicine on Jan. 1, 1988, and his comment at retirement was “I never worked a day after medical school, since I was so lucky to be in a career that made me happy and fulfilled all my working days.” Sylvia and Bill resided in two locations during his retirement years, both in Beaver Dam, WI and Hilton Head Island, SC. Bill enjoyed golfing, fishing with his sons and Keith Stahl and sons, and bicycling with his friend Bob Brunelle on several European adventures. He attended and supported many musical venues with Sylvia, which included the Green Lake Festival of Music in Wisconsin and symphony and choral programs at Hilton Head Island, S.C.
Bill played the flute since he was a young boy, was active in his high school band, and continued to play for his own enjoyment his entire life.
Bill is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sylvia, of Oshkosh; his four children, Jane R. Barker, Kathleen E. Richards, William G. Richards, Jr., Timothy (Maureen) Richards; his four grandchildren, Jay (Kristen), Jonathan (Kristina), Jennifer VandeBerg and Zachary Richards; two great-grandchildren, Alexander and Elizabeth VandeBerg; and his brother John P. NORTH FREEDOM—Albert George Zick, 96, passed away peacefully in his rural North Freedom home on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2019, with all his family present.
Albert was born July 10, 1923, in the village of Denzer in the township of Honey Creek, Sauk County, Wis. His parents were George Herman and Lydia Amanda (Klipstein) Zick, the proprietors of the Denzer General Store. When his mother died two days after his birth, due to complications of childbirth, his paternal grandmother, Sophia Zick, took the responsibility of caring for and raising Albert until her death when he was 11 years old. Soon after, Albert’s cousin, Evelyn and her husband, Orrin Sprecher, and their daughters, Nyla and Neva, took him to be part of their family.
June 9, 1951, Albert married Allegra Shale of rural North Freedom, whom he met roller skating in Reedsburg while she was attending Teacher’s College. They lived their first five years of marriage in the Denzer area while Allegra taught at BlackHawk and Witwen. They moved to the Shale farm soon after the birth of their first child, Aaron, in 1956, and when Albert became employed by John Barnhart in his grocery store in Baraboo. Their daughter, Amy, was born to this loving, caring family in 1958. In 1961, Albert took employment in Reedsburg at the Super Value Store, where he remained for the next 29 years, under several different managements and store names.
His greatest pleasure was in his family, Amy and Aaron have fond memories of playing cards and board games, playing softball, roller skating, and going to sporting events and auctions. All during the children’s growing up years, the family traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada. Two years after their retirements in 1990, he and Allegra opened an antique shop in the barn on the Shale farm, which they operated for 20 years in the spring to fall months, allowing them to enjoy their winters traveling. Their travels took them five times to Europe, three to Germany where Albert had opportunities to use his fluent German. He especially like to ride Amtrak, and they, with Amy and her husband, Paul, took several trips to the West Coast to visit Aaron and his wife, Lizzie. To celebrate anniversaries, Allegra and Albert and Amy and Paul took a Hawaiian cruise together. For years, they square danced at various places in the area.
Albert was a man of great heart who lived an ordinary life filled with hardwork, simple truths, and great kindness. He was deeply devoted to his family and to his church, the Denzer United Methodist, formerly Evangelical United Brethren. He generously supported its ministry and served in many leadership roles, including as a trustee of the cemetery board for many years. There was very seldom a Sunday service or Bible study when he wasn’t in attendance or a daily devotion that he missed. The highlight of their church year was the joint sponsorship with the BlackHawk UM church of the 4th of July at Witwen. He and Allegra served many years as cashiers and were honored one year as grand marshals of the parade.
Albert was skilled in cabinetry, making all the shelves for the antique shop. He also enjoyed repairing and refinishing antiques. He shared his knowledge with 4-H boys, many of whom chose that work for their professions. His gardens and lawns were admired by many. Albert greatly enjoyed sports, stemming from playing softball as a youth and young adult, inspiring Aaron to do the same. But Albert’s greatest talent was in making friends with everyone he met, for he had a wonderful sense of humor, and an outgoing personality that attracted even strangers. Even animals responded to him, knowing that he was gentle and kind to them.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and step-mother, Mary Zick; his sister, Olive Wawrock; and brother, Floyd Zick; brothers-in-law, Howard Shale, Robert Crawford and Karl Parker; special cousins, Evelyn Sprecher, Nyla Sprecher Luetscher, and Neva Sprecher Fingerhuth; and special friends, Adolph and Lotte Huelsemann.
Albert is survived by Allegra, his wife of 68 years; his son, Aaron (Lizzie Cheney) Zick; and daughter, Amy (Paul Seiler); sisters-in-law, Margery Parker and Shirley Crawford; nieces and nephews in-law, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Denzer UM Church on Monday, Dec. 2 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Redlin Funeral Home in Baraboo on Sunday, Dec. 1, and from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the Denzer Church on Monday, Dec. 2.
The family wants to extend thanks to their special neighbors, Kaitlyn Green and Megan Ringelstetter, to the staff at St. Croix Hospice and Bright Star for their wonderful care, and to Dr. Rx Flygt, Albert’s physician. Memorials may be made to the Sauk County Humane Society, the Denzer U.M. Church or the Denzer Cemetery.
