At a recent Milwaukee Press Club and luncheon, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D) talked about pending federal legislation for more unemployment insurance relief. The CARES Act provided $600 a week in unemployment insurance which House Democrats wanted to continue under the HEROS Act. Now, under the HEELS Act which is moving forward in the Senate, additional unemployment insurance would be reduced to $200 a week and then a formula that would provide about 70 percent of what people are making. Sen. Baldwin discussed if Democrats are willing to negotiate around the $600 a week. "Certainly, I am willing to look at a flat level. Individual calculation is a no go because it's just not going to work. And, if we keep the full stimulus payment, direct payment, I think we can have a negotiation about what level it could be," Baldwin said.
