Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke (R-Kaukauna) held a news conference with the co-chair of the new Speaker's Task Force on Racial Disparity, Rep. Shelia Stubbs (D-Madison). The special committee of lawmakers and community members will focus on racial disparities, education opportunities, public safety, and police policies and standards. "We see this as really the first step in many going forward towards hopefully addressing disparities here in the state, and coming up with a bipartisan package of bills that we can bring to the floor of the legislature," Rep. Steineke said. "My orders from [my community that I serve] are very clear, pass meaningful criminal justice reform, and that is why I am here today," Rep. Stubbs said.
