Typical uninformed and non-technical people again write newspaper articles dealing with technical subjects.

The Feb. 15 edition of the Daily Register front-page DNR Alliant Power article on cooling water ponds has several statements based on nothing. No technical studies are quoted yet alarming statements printed are assumed to be fact.

The facts are the Wisconsin river valley receives water from rainfall, upstream areas and local groundwater. In this area there is no loss of surface water next to the river into the ground. If that were the case the Wisconsin River would be dry parts of the year. There would be no need to discharge cooling water to the Wisconsin River. Writing fear monger articles like “the sky is falling” make for scaring people unnecessarily. Just because it is in the paper doesn't make it true. In the current case the article likely is very false.
