Author Karl Stewart of Fond du Lac will sign copies of his books from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Readers Realm Books and Gifts, 147 E. Montello St., Montello.
Raised in the hills of post-World War II West Virginia, he studied for the Catholic priesthood. Having been expelled from the seminary for excessive individualism, he joined the U.S. Army in the late 1960s and became a communications sergeant in the elite Green Beret Special Forces.
Upon returning to civilian life, Stewart became a high school social studies/English teacher, earning a master’s degree in education. In 2005, Stewart retired from teaching to devote himself to writing and his family.
His latest novel, “Up Harvey’s Creek,” is a boy’s memoir in post-WWII and earned an honorable mention at the 2018 Great Southeast Book Festival.
