Saint-Gobain holds penny war fundraiser

Pictured from left are Arpi Aprahamian (Saint-Gobain plant manager), Tiffany Boodry (Saint-Gobain fundraiser organizer) and Bev Bartels (board president of St. Vincent de Paul).

Saint-Gobain in Portage recently held a penny war to raise money for an organization in the community. Five teams competed against each other to see who would come out with the highest point value. Pennies and dollars were positive and silver coins deducted points from a team. A total of $935.30 was raised and the third-shift team was the victor.

The employees of Saint-Gobain voted to direct the proceeds to St. Vincent de Paul.

St. Vincent de Paul, which operates a thrift shop in Portage, works with members of the community in providing food, household items and clothing, as well as provides free medical care for those in need. They also work with other groups in the community, such as the homeless shelters, to ensure that people are able to get all of their needs met.
