Senior leadership played a key role for the Lodi boys soccer team this season, and the Capitol Conference took notice.

The Blue Devils had six players — four of them seniors — earn all-conference recognition when the league recently announced its season-ending awards.

Leading the way for Lodi was senior Tim Prosek, who earned second-team honors for a second straight season. Prosek was one of Lodi’s top defenders but also contributed on the offensive end. He finished tied for second on the team in assists with four, and scored one goal.

The Blue Devils notched five honorable mention honorees: seniors Mitchell Figi, Jared Volk and Kyle Mayberry and juniors Nathaniel Karls and Ben Zieser.

Senior Mitchell Figi was the top attacker for Lodi, as the speedy midfielder found the back of the net a team-leading eight times. He also was the team’s assists leader with six. Volk stepped up in a major way for the Blue Devils this season as the midfielder scored a third-best five goals. He also tied for fourth in assists with three.

Karls was the Blue Devils’ top forward, tying for second on the team in goals with seven. Zieser was one of the team’s top defenders, providing relief for Mayberry in net.

When opposing attackers were able to get in on goal, Mayberry came up with a number of key stops. The netminder made 119 saves and allowed 38 goals in 18 games for a .758 save percentage.

The Blue Devils got off to a good start but were unable to build on it as they sputtered down the stretch, ultimately finishing the year 8-10-1 overall. Lodi battled throughout the conference campaign as well, finishing the league season 3-5-1.
