The Poynette wrestling team will be well represented at the Kohl Center with a pair of wrestlers qualifying for the Division 3 State meet.
Senior Wesley Sandstrom at 220 pounds and senior Joey Cibulka at 170 both earned their first even berths into the big dance at this year's Division 3 Dodgeland Sectional after falling short at last year's Div. 2 Richland Center Sectional.
Sandstrom (27-8) opened with back-to-back wins to punch his ticket to the championship match, where he dropped an 8-2 decision to Markesan’s Tanner Weber.
He quickly rebounded, earning a 3-1 sudden victory over Reedsville’s Col Knier to lock up second place.
Cibulka (31-7) opened his day with a pin fall win over Horicon’s Riley Gable in 2:24 but dropped a 4-2 decision to Reedsville’s Daniel Kocourek in the semifinals.
Needing to go through wrestle backs, he earned a pin and an 8-6 decision over Mishicot’s Kyle Tesarik to finish third.

The Pumas almost had five qualifiers with Gwen Golueke (106), Josh Prey (152) and Nick Koss (285) falling just one match short.
Golueke pinned Johnson Creek’s Mateah Roehl in the consolation semifinals, but was pinned by Brillon’s Isaiah Ribble in the third place match.
Prey dropped a 9-1 major decision to Random Lake’s Levi Kohn while Koss fell 4-3 in an ultimate tie-breaker against Johnson Creek’s Seth Roberts.
The Montello wrestling team had a pair of qualifiers in Dodgeland, but unfortunately for the Hilltoppers pair, it was a quick exit.
Sophomore Drew Torres at 152 pounds and junior Taylor Fox (195) both suffered losses in their first round matches.
The two wrestlers were able to get into the wrestlebacks, but they both lost in their opening match there as well.
