A Westfield man could face as many as 65 years in prison after investigators said he fondled two girls in 2013 and 2014.
Michael K. Traxler, 28, of Westfield, was charged Dec. 8 with felony counts of second-degree sexual assault of a child and repeated sexual assault of the same child.
Westfield police say they took a report in November that Traxler groped a 15-year-old girl. Traxler told police he was too intoxicated to remember what happened and was unaware of touching the girl inappropriately. He said he touched her inappropriately one time previously but was also too intoxicated to remember what happened, police said.
Police said they took a report that Traxler in November 2013 had fondled an 11-year-old girl on four occasions. The girl said she remembered that it was deer season during one of the incidents and that it was summer during another incident.
The charges carry a combined maximum initial penalty of 65 years in prison.
Traxler appeared Dec. 15 in Marquette County Circuit Court and is free on $2,500 cash bail. He was ordered to have no contact with the girls or any girl under the age of 18.
The case is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Feb. 4.
