State and local agencies are investigating a house fire in Montello that claimed a life on April 20.

State and local agencies are investigating a house fire in Montello that claimed a life Saturday.

Marquette County Sheriff Joe Konrath said in a press release that emergency dispatchers received a call at 2:13 p.m. Saturday about a structure fire on Cass Street in Montello.

The Montello Fire Department was paged, with aid from the Oxford and Princeton Fire Departments.

When deputies and firefighters arrived on the scene, a house was “engulfed in flames,” and deputies found an unidentified deceased person inside.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Marquette County Coroner, Wisconsin Department of Justice Fire Marshals and the Montello Fire Department are investigating the cause of the fire.
