WISCONSIN DELLS — A 30-year-old Portage woman died from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash around 6 a.m. Saturday in the town of Lewiston, according to a news release from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
Four others were injured in the crash and taken to local hospitals, their names along with the name of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of family, the news release states. The crash occurred on Highway 16 at Lewiston Station Road, about 6 miles east of Wisconsin Dells.
Freezing rain was falling at the time of the crash and the roads were slush-covered, according to the release.
A 25-year-old Poynette woman was driving east in a Chrysler Town and Country van carrying three passengers — the 30-year-old Portage woman, a 28-year-old Portage woman and a 27-year-old Sturtevant man — when the van began to spin and crossed the center line. The van was then struck by a westbound 2011 Jeep Compass, driven by a 27-year-old Portage woman.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting the crash. The sheriff’s office and the Columbia County Medical Examiner’s Office continue to investigate the crash.
