The Columbia County Zoning Committee is upgrading its zoning laws to remain current and accurate.
This would be commendable except some members of the county board have suggested removing any language on zoning permits for oil pipelines in this county. How can we write zoning regulations for local businesses but then give a free pass to a large oil company that could build a pipeline next to a school or nursing home?
No federal law preempts the ability of a state or local government from establishing siting requirements for oil pipelines. Let’s keep our zoning permits for oil pipelines just as other counties in our state have.
