What makes an effective city of Portage Common Council member? I am writing this letter to ask you to vote for a young man that has a heartfelt interest in the city of Portage and he is hoping to represent the 6th Aldermanic District.

Eric Shimpach contacted me in early January and we began talking about his campaign for a city of Portage Common Council vacancy. I have gotten to know him well in a short time.

Yes, he is young and that can be a two-edged sword, yet I think he has the maturity and the personality to be effective. Thus, I am writing this letter of support for him.

Qualities for an effective Common Council member are to be a good listener and to have an open mind. He has been doing the doorbell visits with people and listening to their concerns since I met him in January.

I have gotten to know him as a man who innately uses critical thinking and discernment as he talks to citizens. He listens before he speaks and I find that a refreshing thing. Cast your vote for Shimpach on April 2.
