Pardeeville’s Sara Ott and Montello’s Abbie Kozlowski were both dual-threat players for their teams this spring.
Ott and Kozlowski gave their teams a reliable presence in the circle as a No. 1 pitcher, and both also were a tough out at the plate. Trailways West Conference coaches recognized how important both players were to their teams this season, as Ott and Kozlowski were recently named first-team All-Trailways West Conference selections.
Ott, just a freshman, quickly established herself in the circle for the Bulldogs. She finished the year with an 8-7 record for a Pardeeville team that went 9-9 overall while taking fifth in the Trailways West at 7-7. Ott posted a 5.17 earned run average, but her 111 strikeouts in 84 innings pitched were the fourth-most in the conference.
Ott was also pretty good at the plate. Her .500 batting average ranked third in the conference, and her six doubles were tied for the sixth-most in the league. She had a triple, drove in 13 runs and stole six bases.
Kozlowski was a strikeout pitcher for the Hilltoppers, finishing with 162 punchouts in 113⅓ innings. She fashioned a 12-7 record for at Montello squad that finished fourth in the Trailways West Conference with a 9-5 record. Her 12 wins were the third-most in the conference, and her three shutouts ranked second. Her 2.59 ERA ranked third in the league.
Kozlowski registered a .397 batting average and her seven doubles were the second-most in the Trailways West. She also had 10 walks and her 19 RBIs ranked sixth in the conference.
Montello also had a pair of players earn second-team honors in freshman Tiffany Klapper and senior Hailey Kaenel.
Klapper had an outstanding rookie year with the Hilltoppers. She finished with a .407 batting average and her 19 stolen bases ranked fourth in the league. She also finished with 16 RBIs, 11 walks, three doubles, a triple and 19 runs scored.
Kaenel wrapped up her high school career by batting .300 with two home runs. She tied for sixth in the Trailways West with 19 RBIs, while finishing with 13 walks, three doubles and a triple.
Pardeeville sophomore Brooke Peterson was also a second-team selection. Peterson led the league with seven triples and ranked fourth with 27 runs scored. She finished with a .365 batting average, eight stolen bases, 10 RBIs and six doubles.
Cambria-Friesland seniors Chloe DeYoung and Grace Davis were both second-team picks. DeYoung was fifth in the league in batting average at .487, while finishing tied for the sixth in steals with 15.
Davis was eighth in batting average at .447 and second in stolen bases with 22.
Area players earning honorable mention in the conference were Pardeeville senior Alexis Crotty and Montello junior Ella Stelter. Crotty batted .326 for the Bulldogs while finishing with 14 RBIs, 12 walks and 17 runs scored. Stelter batted .273 with 15 RBIs and nine runs scored.
