Courtney Peterson

Pardeeville senior shortstop Courtney Peterson makes a throw across the diamond during a game this spring in Pardeeville. Peterson was named to the All-Trailways North Conference first team this year. It is the fourth year in a row she has earned this honor.

Pardeeville senior Courtney Peterson was named a first-team All-Trailways North Conference pick this season, marking the fourth straight year Peterson has landed on the conference’s first team.

Peterson earned her spot among the conference’s best players despite Pardeeville going just 2-15 overall on the season. The Bulldogs shortstop was among the conference leaders in a handful of offensive categories. Her .630 batting average ranked second in the Trailways North, while her three home runs were tied for most in the conference. She also finished with 21 RBIs, good for sixth in the conference, and drew 15 walks, which was the second-most in the league.

Peterson was joined on the conference’s first team by Montello sophomore Abbie Kozlowski, who compiled some pretty impressive stats at the plate, and as Montello’s primary pitcher. Kozlowski batted .511, which ranked her sixth in the Trailways North. She also had 18 RBIs and a pair of home runs. Her seven doubles were tied for the fourth-most in the league.

As a pitcher, Kozlowski racked up 108 strikeouts, which was second-best in the Trailways North. She threw 91 innings for the Hilltoppers this spring, going 8-10 with a 2.69 earned-run average.

Area players earning second-team Trailways North honors were Montello junior Hailey Kaenel and Cambria-Friesland seniors Lindsey Bauer and Devon DeYoung.

Kaenel slugged three home runs this season, tied for the league lead, while also batting .358 with 16 RBIs and six stolen bases.

DeYoung batted .413 with four doubles and 11 runs scored. Bauer ended up with a .558 batting average — fourth-best in the league — while stealing 12 bases and hitting six doubles. Bauer also went 6-11 as Cambria-Friesland’s top pitcher, striking out 43 batters in 86⅓ innings.

Earning honorable mention from the area were Montello senior Kelsey Broesch, Montello sophomore Hayley Smith and Pardeeville junior Alex Crotty.

Broesch batted .304 with 10 stolen bases. Her 15 walks were the second-most in the conference. Smith ended the year with a .300 batting average with 16 RBIs. Crotty batted .324 for Pardeeville this spring, finishing with six doubles and 16 RBIs.

In the Trailways South Conference, Rio senior Daphne Hawley was the only area player to earn all-conference recognition. Hawley was named to the second team with a .375 batting average and six RBIs.

As Rio’s pitcher, Hawley went 4-7, striking out 50 in 49⅓ innings pitched.
