Reedsburg Public Library’s Youth Services Librarian Miss Jess and Miss Brittany have a “Universe” of fun and educational activities planned for this summer’s library reading program, “a Universe of Stories” which begins on June 12.

As in past years, youth may participate in one of three reading incentive programs, “Little Lunars,” “Shooting Stars” or “Teen Titans.” This summer, the two older groups are challenged to read for three 20-minute increments each week. Weekly rewards include a “planet” stamp on the reading log, a voucher from a local business or other small prize, as well as an entry in the Grand Prize drawing. Items in the Grand Prize Drawing include a Lego rocket ship, a lava lamp and other prizes that are out of this world. All who complete the program will earn an envelope of coupons from area businesses, as well as a book of their choice.

Youth Services events this summer similarly combine the new with the tried and true. At noon on June 18, acclaimed musician Laura Doherty will present a musical journey into space. Circus Dogs Dash and Copper will perform at 6 p.m. July 2. Stargazer John Heasley will return to the Reedsburg Library at 4 p.m. July 31 to present a program on amateur astronomy. Comedy Jugglers Miller and Mike take the stage at 6 p.m. Aug. 6.

Perennially popular programs for preschoolers such as “Junior Lunch Bunch” and “Preschool Players” are back again this year. Middle grade activities such as “Discovery Days” and “Reedsburg Readers” book clubs have been scheduled with new projects and books. Babygarten and Teen Time continue through the summer months for kids on either end of the age spectrum. Mainstays for June, July and August, include Movie Mondays and Family Nights on Tuesday evenings. Reedsburg Writers will be held at 10 a.m. on Fridays, with local author Tim Fox appearing as a guest at the first session.

“Loganville Book Bunch” will be held at the Village Hall in Loganville at 10 a.m. each Thursday beginning on June 17. Miss Jess and Miss Brittany will share stories and crafts as well as a large selection of books for all ages that may be checked out. Reading incentive folders as well as the accompanying prizes will also be made available there each week.
