The Reedsburg boys golf team traveled to The House on the Rock Resort Golf Course on May 15 to compete in the Badger Conference Tournament where the Beavers took second place by one stroke.

The Beavers carded a team score of 315, one stroke shy of Waunakee at 314. Beaver Dam took third (334), followed by Baraboo (344), Portage (361), DeForest (361), and Sauk Prairie (375).

Senior Dylan Brown carded the fourth lowest round of the day with a 76 on the par 72 course, while Ben Fuhrmann carded a 77. Will Fuhrmann wasn’t far behind with a 78, while the Beavers were rounded out by Zach Arneson (84) and Carson Beyer (90).

Waunakee became conference champ with 47 total points on the season, while Reedsburg took second with 40. The Beavers will begin postseason play on May 23 when they travel to La Crosse Country Club for a WIAA Div. 1 Regional Meet.

Girls Soccer

The Reedsburg girls soccer team added a dominant win to its record on May 14 when the Beavers traveled to Adams-Friendship and shut out the Green Devils 8-0.

Reedsburg controlled the pace from the opening whistle. Julia Korklewski recorded a hat trick in the non-conference contest with three goals, while adding two assists as well. Tina Andersen added two goals of her own, while Claire Koenecke, Rylee Dorow, and Emma Lichte each added a goal. Koenecke, Dorow, Nikki Arneson, Ashley Krieski and Anna Krieski had one assist apiece.

Two days earlier, Reedsburg hosted Platteville/Lancaster where the game ended in a 2-2 draw. Andersen and Dorow scored for the Beavers, with Korklewski claiming both assists. Goalkeeper Sawyer Hahn recorded 10 saves for the Beavers.

Reedsburg (5-4-3 overall, 2-2-0 Badger North) will host Dodgeville/Mineral Point on May 18.

Boys Tennis

The Reedsburg boys tennis team competed in the Sauk Prairie Triangular on May 12 where the Beavers recorded a win and a loss.

Reedsburg was no match against Sauk Prairie, as the Beavers were shut out 7-0. Sophomore Jacob Gesteland fell 6-1, 6-1 to Noah Wankerl at No. 1 singles, while senior Dayne Rothwell fell 6-4, 6-1 to Tarren Nimmow at No. 2. Senior Nate Pillow fell by the same score to Alex Kinnamon at No. 3, while junior Max Harsch had the closest match of the day at No. 4. Harsch and Chris Leatherberry played to a 6-6 tie in the first set, only for Harsch to fall 9-7 in the set tiebreaker. Harsch held his own in the second set, but gave up the final two games to lose it 7-5.

In doubles, Tom Koenig and Logan Benseman were swept by Parker Chrisler and Kelby Mack, Colin Phalen and Eli Hulse fell 6-1, 6-0 to Dakota Pickhard and Max Wilkinson, while Brett Bolt and Noah Hulse were swept by Sam Humbracht and Jake Guentherman.

The Beavers bounced right back against Black River Falls, defeating the Tigers 6-1.

Reedsburg swept its singles flights, with Gesteland defeating Adrien Clason 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1, while Rothwell, Pillow, and Harsch all shut out their opponents in matches 2-4. In doubles, Koenig and Benseman recorded Reedsburg’s lone loss of the dual with a 6-0, 6-0 defeat at No. 1, while Phalen and Eli Hulse won 4-6, 6-1, 10-8 at No. 3. Bolt and Noah Hulse followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win.

The Beavers kept things going on May 15 when they traveled to Portage and won 4-3 in their final dual of the season.

Pillow was tested in the No. 3 singles match against Paul Schwantas. The senior saw a close first set slip away as he fell 7-5 but figured out his opponent from there, winning the next two sets 6-1, 6-0 to take the match. Harsch had a key win at No. 4 singles as well, battling to a 6-2, 7-5 victory.

The Beavers won two of their three doubles matches. Phalen and Eli Hulse cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 win in the No. 2 match, while Lubasi and Noah Hulse had to fight through a close first set at No. 3 but ultimately won 7-5, 6-2.

The closest match of the night came from Gesteland at No. 1 singles. The sophomore had an epic, back-and-forth showdown against Jason Narel, as the two played to a 6-6 tie in both of the opening sets. Gesteland fell on the wrong end of both of the set tiebreakers however, falling 9-7 in the first and 14-12 in a long second-set tiebreaker. Gesteland ran out of juice from there, falling 6-0 in the third set.

Reedsburg will travel to Madison on May 18-19 for the conference tournament.
