George, “Todd Senior” Nelson, 85, of Lake Delton, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 23, 2019, at his home, surrounded by his entire family.
Todd was born Jan. 28, 1934, the son of Dave and Elsie Nelson, in Wisconsin Dells. He married Farlene Welsch in 1957 and had three children. He started his career in Madison with the State Highway Commission. He and Farlene also managed Lost Canyon in Lake Delton. He then worked for Badger Ordnance for many years. Our father was very proud of serving in the Army, a true American patriot in every sense of the word. It gave him great pleasure belonging to the VFW as well as the American Legion of Wisconsin Dells; he truly enjoyed the camaraderie with the guys. He was also a real estate broker where he started his career with Dutch Hollow. He became an auctioneer in 1964 and that really changed the direction of our entire family. For many years, he loved delivering pizza’s for the Pizza Pub. His greatest pleasure was his children, grandchildren and a very long list of life-long friends. He loved to buy and sell horses, goats, chickens and all farm animals.
He will be remembered as having a heart of gold and his kindness and compassion was enjoyed by all. He loved to just stop at people’s farms and talk.
Todd is survived by his wife, Farlene; children, Robyn (Terry Hanger), Penny (Gary) Kowalke and Todd (Shari) Nelson; 10 grandchildren, Natalie Leyden, Nelson Ennis, Dolly Joseph, Grant Slayton, Paige George, Todd Nelson, Jr., Travis Nelson, Natasha Lucke, Ashley Turzinski, Alissa Gander; along with his 20 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Shirley Meister.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Elsie Nelson; brothers, Joe, Dave, Jack; sisters, Myrna Harrison, Leah Ming, Ardith Stecky and Betty Wheatman.
Visitation will be held from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at Trappers Turn Golf Club. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2019, at the Dells Delton United Methodist Church, 320 Unity Drive, Wisconsin Dells, followed by interment at the Lake Delton Cemetery. Due to limited space, we request family and close friends only please. All are invited to a celebration of life reception noon Thursday, March 28, 2019, at Trappers Turn.
