Marlene Laverne (Rudy) Laechelt, 98, of Reedsburg, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2019.

She was born Sept. 7, 1920, in the Town of Woodland, Sauk County, to Arthur W. and Ethel M. (Doering) Rudy. Marlene was married to August F. Laechelt on May 30, 1940. They lived in Butler, until 1967, when they moved to rural La Valle to become full-time beekeepers.

Marlene was a member of the La Valle United Methodist Church, past member of the Wisconsin Honey Producers Association and past member of the American Beekeeping Federation.

Survivors include one son, Ronald Lee (Eyvon) of Helena, Alabama; grandson, Billy (Tara) of Shoal Creek, Alabama; great-grandchildren, Caleb and Brinley of Birmingham, Alabama; one sister, Edith (Virgil) Hartje of rural La Valle; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one son; her sister, Doris (John) Gates; and her brother, Norbert (Jennie) Rudy.

A memorial service was held at 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2019, at the Advent Christian Church, La Valle, with Pastor Richard Johnson officiating. A visitation was held from 4:30 p.m. until the time of the service Monday at the church. Burial will take place at a later date in Oak Lawn Cemetery, La Valle.
