I would like to express my extreme gratitude to the Reedsburg community for allowing me to serve as your Police Chief for the past 13 years. This experience was an incredible way to end my 31 years in law enforcement. I would like to thank the Police and Fire Commission for trusting me to lead the Police Department for the past 13 years. I hope you have felt I was worthy of that trust.
I would like to thank the Common Council for their continuous support. We have had spirited but respectful debates over the years as we have tried to provide the best service we could to our residents. I hope that you have taken pride in the responsibility you have given me.
To the residents of Reedsburg, it has been an honor to serve you. You have made my family feel welcomed from the first day that we arrived. Often times police officers describe our jobs as seeing people at their maddest, their baddest and their saddest, and that is true. What is also true is that we have the ability to be a part of your lives to provide compassion, comfort and safety, thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you. I hope that you felt safe under my leadership.
To the officers and staff at the Police Department, it has been an honor to lead such a dedicated group of professionals. I have tried to provide you with the leadership, support, equipment and training you needed to perform your jobs safely and productively. Although we have not always agreed, I hope you know that your best interests were always at the forefront of every decision I made. I hope you were as proud of me as I am of you.
To my family, thank you for your understanding. You didn’t sign up for this career. It must have been difficult to live in the fish-bowl that accompanies a public position in a small town but you handled it well. Thank you for graciously accepting when I had to leave our family to attend to a tragedy with someone else’s family. This ended up being less of a career and more of a lifestyle. I hope my service made you proud.
Again, thank you all for a great career, the past 13 years have been fantastic. I have left in you in good hands with Chief Cummings. With that being said, my watch has ended and I stand relieved.
Tim Becker, Chief of Police (ret.)
