Saturday, June 2

Free fishing weekend: All day, statewide. No license or stamps required to fish inland waters or outlying Wisconsin waters of the Great Lakes and Mississippi and St. Croix rivers. All bag and size limits and other regulations apply.

State Parks open house: All day, statewide. Free admission to all state parks, forests and trails. People participating in activities that require a state trail pass (biking, mountain biking, horseback riding, inline skating) to use state-owned and managed trails do not require a trail pass.

Free ATV trails weekend: All day, statewide. ATV/UTV owners can ride free, Wisconsin registration not required. Nonresident ATV/UTV owners do not need to have a trail pass on these days. All other rules apply: safety education certification is required for all UTV and ATV operators who were born on or after Jan. 1, 1988.

Mammoth Fun Run and Hike: 8 a.m., Ice Age Trail Alliance Lodi Valley Chapter, Doctors Park, Highway 113 and Highway K, Lodi. Registration begins at 8 a.m., run/walk begins at 9 a.m. with a bus taking participants to the Lodi Marsh trailhead. Bike derby: 10 a.m. to noon, Baraboo Elks Club, Sauk County Fairgrounds, 700 Washington Ave., Baraboo. Youth bike derby for kindergartners through fifth grade, with Wildside Action Sports performing bike inspections and light maintenance. Baraboo Police and Ambulance will share bicycle safety tips. Art workshop: 2-5 p.m., Festival of the Artists, River Arts Inc., 590 Water St, Prairie du Sac. Dillman’s Art Workshop Retreat of Lac du Flambeau is partnering with River Arts Inc. to bring the free festival to Prairie du Sac. There will be hour-long demonstrations by well-known artists in their chosen medium; artist’s original and reproduction artwork plus books, videos, and art supplies for sale; and information on resources for artists. Free event, no registration required.

Guided kayak tour: 6:30-8:30 p.m., Devil’s Lake State Park. Guided tour observing wildlife and learning about the park’s geology and history. Preregistration and prepay is required prior to the event. Bring a kayak or rent one from the Chateau. The rental fee is $25 for a single kayak and $45 for a double. Meet at the Chateau. Painting class: 6:30-9 p.m., River Arts Inc., River Arts on Water Studio, 590 Water St, Prairie du Sac. Instructor David Becker will walk participants through creating an American Flag painting. Beginners are welcome, as well as those with some painting experience. Open to ages 16 and over. Registration is $50, and includes two malt beverages in addition to all painting supplies. Solar talk: 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., Midwest Renewable Energy Association and Solar Sauk County, West Square Building, Room B24, 505 Broadway, Baraboo; 5:30 p.m. at Driftless Glen Distillery, 300 Water St., Baraboo.Residents can learn about the County program that allows residents to invest in high quality renewable energy solar installation with potentially significant savings on installation cost. Thursday, June 7

Concert: 7 p.m., Concerts on the Square, Sauk County Courthouse lawn in downtown Baraboo. The University of Wisconsin-Baraboo/Sauk County Campus/Community Band will perform. Nature event: 8:30-10 p.m., Devil’s Lake State Park. As part of the Fireside Fun program at Devil’s Lake State Park, learn more about fireflies before heading out to catch and watch thousands of fireflies in the tall grasses.
