The Sauk Prairie High School wrestling team started the 2018-19 season in dominant fashion.

The Eagles notched nine pins on the way to recording a season-opening 73-3 Badger North Conference dual-meet win over visiting Mount Horeb on Nov. 30.

Sauk Prairie never trailed on the night, as Reece Bierstaker opened the dual by receiving a forfeit at 285 pounds. Mount Horeb’s lone win came at 106 pounds before Sauk Prairie’s Dawson Enge received a forfeit at 113 pounds.

The Eagles went on to record three straight pins, starting when Hayden Caygill pinned his opponent in 43 seconds in the 120-pound match. Luis Elizondo (126 pounds) and Adam Nolden (132) added pins in 1:37 and 52 seconds, respectively.

Carson Saladis followed with an 8-5 decision at 138 pounds while Bryant Schaaf later added a 14-6 major decision at 170 pounds.

Sauk Prairie earned pins in six of the final seven matches, as Jesse Huerth (145), Devin Fitzgerald (152), Jo Smet (160), Austin Rider (182), Simon Patterson (195) and Marcus Hankins (220) all picked up pins as the Eagles cruised to the 73-3 win.

It was a convincing start for the Eagles, who have won at least a share of nine straight Badger North Conference titles. Their next conference test will come when they visit Baraboo for a dual on Dec. 13.
