MERRIMAC – Town officials here will consider separate rezoning requests to allow for a bed and breakfast and expansion of an existing storage facility.
The owners of a property at S7141A Highway 78 seek to start a bed and breakfast, but first need approval from the Merrimac Town Board. The board is expected to consider both requests during its next meeting at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 at Merrimac Town Hall, S6911 Highway 113. The storage facility is located at E13921 Highway DL.
Jackie Mich, consulting planner with Vandewalle & Associates, said the changes require amending the town’s comprehensive plan. Both requests would change the land use from agricultural preservation to commercial.
“In order for the town to grant a rezoning, the new district has to be consistent with the town’s comprehensive plan,” Mich said.
Town of Merrimac Administrator Tim McCumber said neither property is an active farm.
“Both properties were formerly residential; they are not looking to expand into any farmland areas,” he said. “Once approved, they can go ahead and get their permits.”
