The Sauk Prairie Twins got a measure of revenge Sunday, beating a Cross Plains team that knocked them out of the Home Talent Sunday League playoffs last season.
The Twins took a 10-3 lead into the ninth inning, then held on to claim a 10-9 home win over the Businessmen.
“We really hit the ball well again today,” Sauk Prairie manager Lucas Koenig said. “I was impressed with our opposite field approach and our ability to drive the ball. Defensively, we did not have our best game and we’ll have to build on that.”
Sauk Prairie (2-0) established control when Alex Mayer, Sam Koenig and Lucas Koenig hit consecutive doubles in a five-run second inning. Cross Plains (1-1) got on the board with a run apiece in the third, fourth and fifth inning.
But the Twins kept tacking runs on, scoring a run in the fourth before Sam Koenig hit Sauk Prairie’s fourth home run of the season with a three-run blast in the four-run fifth.
The Twins didn’t add any insurance runs in their final three trips to the plate, while the Businessmen made it close with a six-run ninth.
Sauk Prairie outhit Cross Plains 12-8, led by Sam Koenig going 3 for 3 with a home run and a double. Lucas Koenig went 2 for 3 with two doubles, while Mayer and Connor Leister went 2 for 4.
The Twins will stay home Sunday to face Ashton.
