Sauk Prairie senior Brandon Neumann clears a hurdle while competing in the boys 110-meter hurdles at the Badger Conference Challenge in Portage on Tuesday.

The Sauk Prairie High School boys and girls track and field teams placed eighth and 11th, respectively, in Tuesday’s Badger Conference Challenge at Portage.

The Sauk Prairie boys scored 47.5 points to take eighth out of 13 teams, while the girls collected 24 points to take 11th. DeForest tallied 106 points to bring home the boys title, with Baraboo winning the girls title with 144 points.

P.J. Lane provided Sauk Prairie’s lone first-place finish. The senior cleared 11 feet, 6 inches to win the pole vault, while teammate Phillip Geiselman added a third-place finish (10-06).

Hudson Haas added a runner-up finish for the Eagles. The junior crossed the finish line in 10 minutes, 30.85 seconds to place second in the 3,200 meters, trailing only DeForest junior John Roth (10:19.55). Sauk Prairie freshman Dalton Zirbel (11:22.76) and junior Casey Vande Hey (11:25.47) placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 3,200.

Sauk Prairie’s Blake Gibbs added a fifth-place in the triple jump (38-11), while Cody Brickl used a mark of 5-02 to tie for eighth in the high jump, Camden Desroches placed ninth in the 1,600 meters (5:08.04), Cameron Tucker took ninth in the 400 (:58.18), Tucker Holloway placed 10th in the 800 (2:21.36) and Ethan Gibbs finished 10th in the 200 (:24.34). Garrett Hertzfeldt (41-02.5) and Reece Bierstaker (41-01) placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the shot put.

On the girls’ side, Sauk Prairie’s best individual finishes came from Samantha Marx, Alexsa Lemelin and Grace Williams. Marx took fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 30-09.5, while Lemelin took fourth in the discus (91-10), and Williams (7-00) and Audrey Pape (7-00) placed fourth and sixth, respectively, in the pole vault.

Sophomore Ruby Sandeman added a fifth-place finish in the long jump (15-01). Freshman Kassia Marquardt crossed the finish line in 6:03.73 to take eighth in the 1,600 meters, then put together a 13th-place finish in the 800 (2:48.33).

Hannah Kruckman (4-04) placed ninth in the high jump, while Hannah Accola (4-02) tied for 10th in the event. Olivia Ballweg added a 10th-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles (1:03.50), finishing three spots ahead of teammate Emily Vande Hey (1:07.15).

Sauk Prairie’s top relay finish of the night came in the 3,200 meters. The quartet of Desroches, Ritchie Wolff, Zirbel and Haas teamed up to take third in 9:16.78. DeForest won the event in 9:06.84. Ben Pethan, Trent Schneeberger, Blake Gibbs and Ethan Gibbs added a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter relay (1:41.18).

The Eagles will return to the track Tuesday with a trip to Beaver Dam.
