With 15 commitments, the Badgers' class ranks No. 11 nationally on 247Sports and No. 12 on Rivals.

Peterson, a three-star outside linebacker/defensive end from Akron, Ohio, was one of the Badgers’ top targets on defense since the spring of 2019. He tallied 21 sacks in his junior season at Archbishop Hoban, and chose the Badgers over offers from Alabama, Michigan, West Virginia and more.

"I would always maybe not take things as seriously or do all the things that I should be doing. To me, that’s not what a leader should do, and I think those are the things that I’ve fixed now,” Van Lanen said. “I’ve put myself in this position, and I’ve been playing for a few years now and I’m one of the oldest guys in the room. That’s all part of it, too.”
