The Dells Ducks ended their four-game losing streak in dramatic fashion, as goalie Emil Norrman stopped all 47 shots he faced, leading his team to a 1-0 victory over the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings on Friday night at the Poppy Waterman Arena in Lake Delton.
The Ducks were unable to sweep the home-and-home series though, as the Riverkings ended their scoring draught in the second game of the series, rolling to a 9-1 victory over the Ducks at the South Wood County Recreation Center in Wisconsin Rapids on Saturday.
In Friday’s win, Normann stole the show. He made 17 of his 47 saves in the third period to help the Ducks get their fourth shutout victory of the season. Two of the Ducks previous three shutouts this season came with Normann in net.
Scoring the only goal the Ducks needed was Beckett Patten. His fourth goal of the season came 3 minutes, 58 seconds into the second period, and was assisted by Giovanni Mueller and Austin Phillips.
Saturday’s second game of the series looked like it might be another low-scoring affair, after a scoreless opening period, but the Riverkings changed that by scoring five times in the second period, and four more times in the third.
Leading the offensive explosion for the Riverkings was Jesse Edwards and Jered Stevenson with two goals each.
The lone Dells goal of the night came midway through the third period when Stone Stelzl scored his 15th of the season of an assist from Evan Erdmann, but it came with Riverkings already leading 7-0.
The Ducks, who have just seven games remaining the regular season, will return to action with just one game this weekend, a road game against the Minnesota Blue Ox on Saturday night at the Coon Rapids Ice Center in Coon Rapids, Minnesota.
