A long-lasting blizzard essentially shut down the southern half of Wisconsin from Jan. 28-30, 1947. The snowstorm brought up to 27 inches of snow (more than 13 in Madison) and wind gusts up to 60 mph, creating snow drifts as high as 15 feet. It holds the state record for longest-lasting blizzard.
