Sumner Curtis “Curt” Goodfellow

Sumner Curtis “Curt” Goodfellow, 80, of Brevard, North Carolina, passed away Jan. 22, 2017, at his home. A native of Normal, Illinois, he was the son of the late Sumner Owen Goodfellow and Ruth Lillian Kies Stainton.

He was an alumnus of Arizona State University, Colorado State University, and Illinois Wesleyan College. Employed by Consolidated Paper Co., he resided in Wisconsin Dells, where he raised his children before moving to North Carolina. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Brevard, and was a previous member of Wisconsin Dells Presbyterian Church. Mr. Goodfellow was a previous member of the Kiwanis Club and Ducks Unlimited in Wisconsin. His lifelong love of photography culminated in sales of nature photographs in North Carolina at Hunters and Gatherers and other galleries. Curt contributed joyful exuberance, fun, laughter, bright smiles and the sharing of his “eye” of beauty with his nature photography. His greatest gift was his ability to stay “positive” and see the magic of life. His infectious energy will continue as we remember his beautiful, sincere spirit. God sends angels and we were blessed to be in the presence of one.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janella Goodfellow; sister, Judith Ann Goodfellow; aunt, Dorothy Hinshaw; and uncle, Jay Hinshaw. Surviving is his devoted wife of 27 years, Pauline Potter Goodfellow; son, Gregory (Maureen) Goodfellow of St. Michael, Minnesota; daughter, Ruth Ann Goodfellow of Honolulu, Hawaii; stepson, Jeffrey Kishpaugh of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; stepdaughter, Lisa Kishpaugh of Brevard, North Carolina; siblings, Sandra Rice (Henry) of Kula, Hawaii, and Judith King (Jerry) of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Cassidy Ruth Goodfellow of Superior, and Bridget Maureen Goodfellow of St. Michael, Minnesota.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 10 at English Chapel United Methodist Church in the Davidson River Campground of Pisgah National Forest, with the family receiving friends an hour prior to the service. The Rev. Mike Holder, his pastor, and the Rev. Morris Davis of First United Methodist Church in Brevard will officiate the service. Interment of his cremated remains will be at Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington, Illinois, and other private special places.

Memorials may be made to CarePartners Hospice, 1266 Asheville Highway, Suite 5, Brevard, NC 28712, or Waterford Place Property Owners Association, 10 Lakeview Court, Brevard, NC 28712, or First United Methodist Church, 325 N. Broad, Brevard, NC 28712.
