Robert “Bob” Dixon, 83, of Wisconsin Dells, passed away Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, at Wisconsin Dells Health Services in Wisconsin Dells.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Dells, with the Rev. Craig Wolfgram officiating and military rites provided by the Harold B. Larkin American Legion Post 187 of Wisconsin Dells. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Bob was born Jan. 25, 1935, in Oak Park, Illinois, the son of Charles and Ruth (Hartman) Dixon. After high school, he went on to technical school, and then served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1961, with a position with the CIA. While in the service, he married Jean Strassenburg in Wheaton, Illinois, on Aug. 16, 1958. In 1976, they moved to Wisconsin Dells, and owned and operated the Coast to Coast Hardware Store until 1982. Later he became the caretaker at Camp Wawbeek for 10 years. Bob was a model railroad fanatic, enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs (especially when they won the World Series) and riding Amtrak. He worked at the Dells Amtrak Depot as a passenger assistant. Bob enjoyed a nice cold beer at the Sand Bar. He was on the Adams County Board of Supervisors and active with Easter Seals and Kiwanis.
Bob is survived by his wife, Jean; son, Kenneth (Patricia) Dixon of West Chicago, Illinois; daughter, Marla Dixon-LaRue of Reedsburg; and his grandchildren, Nicole Dixon, Joshua Dixon, McKenzie LaRue and Hunter Grieshop. He was preceded in death by his parents.
