I want to give heartfelt congratulations to a very deserving individual. Dale Gray has been the softball coach at Wisconsin Dells for the past 31 years. Dale was recently elected into the Wisconsin Fast-Pitch Softball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. I can’t think of a more deserving person to be awarded such a great honor.
I met Dale when I became the Portage softball coach in 2000. He quickly became the coach I most enjoyed competing against. I always admired and respected his coaching style and his teams. I received many coaching tips and advice that I used over the years from Dale.
There is much more to being a good coach then wins and losses. Dale understands this and is outstanding at teaching the game of softball and incorporating life lessons that his student athletes can take forward into their lives. I never saw a coach exhibit sportsmanship better than Dale during and after games, no matter if he won or lost. He constantly seeks out players from opposing teams to show his respect and congratulate them for their success. He is a great ambassador for the sport of softball.
I was lucky to have had the opportunity to have my coaching career overlap Dale’s.
Congrats Dale and family.
Dave Mills, Portage Softball Coach 2000-2014
