There were plenty of reasons the Wisconsin Dells prep baseball team went 16-4 and won the South Central Conference this season, but atop that list is the season sophomore outfielder/pitcher Dylan Nevar had for the Chiefs.

Nevar, who stood out at the plate, but also as on the mound, and for his efforts, was named the Player of the Year in the South Central Conference this season.

Nevar was also a unanimous first team pick as an outfielder. He batted in the leadoff spot for Wisconsin Dells, and routinely set the table for his team. He had a team-best .406 batting average to go along with a stellar .487 on-base percentage. He also scored a team-high 24 runs and was second on the team in RBI with 20. He also had a pair of home runs, two triples and six doubles.

As good as Nevar was at the plate, he was almost equally impressive on the mound, where he was a second team All-SCC pick as a pitcher. Nevar finished the season with a 6-0 record, and in 41 1/3 innings pitched, walked just 21 while striking out 65. He finished with a 1.02 earned run average.

“He’s just such a gamer,” Wisconsin Dells head coach Mike Michalsky said of Nevar following a game this season. “He doesn’t get shaken by anything in the baseball game. Those kids are so nice to have around. They’re rare.”

Nevar was one of six Wisconsin Dells players to earn all-conference honors this season. Joining him as unanimous first team picks were teammates Dylan Anchor and Jakob Millard.

Anchor was a unanimous first team infielder as a first baseman. Anchor batted .291 on the year with a .452 on-base percentage. He knocked in 17 and had two home runs to go with four doubles and a triple.

Millard was a unanimous first teamer as a pitcher, where he was almost unhittable this spring. Millard went 5-1 with a 0.68 ERA. In 51 1/3 innings pitched, he gave up just 21 hits, walked 25 and struck out 73. In his final outing with the Chiefs, he didn’t give up a hit in 6 1/3 innings pitched, helping Wisconsin Dells beat Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau in a Division 2 sectional semifinal game in Viroqua.

Also earning first team honors for Wisconsin Dells were Travis Hudack and Dylan Musiedlak.

Hudack made the first team as a catcher, where he threw out six of 35 attempted base stealers. At the plate, Hudack batted .393 and had a team-high three homers. His 24 RBI were also a team best. He also had a .500 on-base percentage and finished with four doubles.

Musiedlak was a first team pick as a utility player, as he played in both the infield and outfield this season, depending on who was pitching for the Chiefs. Musiedlak batted .344 with a .459 on-base percentage. He scored 20 runs and had 10 RBI for the Chiefs.

Also earning all-conference honors for Wisconsin Dells was senior Jackson Sveum, who was named a second team infielder. Sveum batted .278 on the season, with 11 RBI and 10 runs scored.
