The Wisconsin Dells dolphins had a successful season opener on Saturday, as the local swim team won 35 events while taking on the Mazomanie Barracudas in Wisconsin Dells.

The Wisconsin Dells girls won 22 events on Saturday. The Dolphins were led by their group of 8-and-younger swimmers, and the group of 13- and 14-year-old swimmers, as both groups won seven events against Mazomanie.

In the girls 8-and-younger division, the Dolphins were led by June Manley and Ella Mayer, as each swimmer won a pair of individual events. Manley won the 25-meter freestyle in 21.19 seconds, and the 25 backstroke in 0:26.42. Mayer’s victories came in the 25 breaststroke (0:31.02) and the 50 freestyle (0:49.65). Emma Mayer also won the 25 butterfly for the Dolphins, finishing in 0:28.10.

The Wisconsin Dells 8-and-younger girls also won a pair of relays. In the 100 medley relay, it was the team of Minka Oeftger, Mya Oeftger, Emma Mayer and Ella Mayer that finished in 2:00.71. In the 100 freestyle relay, the foursome of Ella Mayer, Eliana Leonard, Emma Mayer and Manley won with a time of 1:49.41.

The Wisconsin Dells 13- and 14-year old group was led by Mackenzie McMahon and Madchen Ewig, as each swimmer won three individual events. McMahon won the 50 freestyle (0:31.56), the 50 backstroke (0:37.75) and the 200 freestyle (2:42.29). Ewig’s victories came in the 100 individual medley (1:20.77), the 50 breaststroke (0:41.67) and the 50 butterfly (0:35.64).

The team of McMahon, Macy Platt, Ewig and Tessa Ketelhut also picked up a victory in the 200 medley relay, finishing with a time of 2:27.81.

The Wisconsin Dells girls 11- and 12-year-old group finished with four victories on Saturday in its home pool. The group was led by Ashiya Hopkins, who won three individual events. Hopkins was first in the 100 individual medley (1:27.41), the 100 freestyle (1:20.34) and the 50 butterfly (0:37.43). Also earning a victory for the Dolphins was Josie Griffin, who won the 50 backstroke in 0:39.13.

In the girls 9- and 10-year-old division, Wisconsin Dells won a pair of events. In the 50 butterfly it was Sofia Olson winning in 1:02.54. The other win came in the 200 medley relay, where the team of Elise Leonard, Vivian Gavinski, Olson and Katy Gussel finished first in 3:45.66.

In the 15- to 18-year old group, Rakelle Schultz nabbed a pair of individual victories. Schultz won the 50 freestyle in 0:30.99 and the 50 backstroke in 0:34.74.

The Wisconsin Dells boys combined to win 13 events against the Barracudas. Five of those wins came in the 8-and-younger group, where Grahm Hoch and Cash Radkiewicz each won two events. Hoch’s victories came in the 25 freestyle, where he finished in 0:21.35, and the 25 backstroke, where he ended up with a time of 0:36.06. Radkiewicz won the 50 freestyle in 0:44.12 and the 25 butterfly in 0:25.30.

The Wisconsin Dells 8-and-younger boys also won the 100 freestyle relay, where the team of Hoch, Andrew Ropicky, Julien Chavez and Radkiewicz finished in 1:54.85.

In the boys 11- to 12-year-old division, Wisconsin Dells earned four victories, including two from RJ Galloway. In the 50 freestyle Galloway won in 0:35.04. He also finished first in the 50 backstroke with a time of 0:44.81. Also earning a victory in 11- to 12-year-old group for the Dolphins was Marty Platt, who won the 50 breaststroke in 0:51.75.

Winning the boys 11- to- 12-year-old 200 freestyle relay was the Wisconsin Dells team of Dominik Tylka, Bryce Medsker, RJ Manley and Platt with a time of 3:20.05.

The Dolphins won three events in the boys 9- to 10-year-old division. Leading that group was Christian Contreras, who won the 50 backstroke in 1:12.87, and Blake Schmitz, who was victorious in the 100 freestyle in 2:07.80.

Wisconsin Dells also won the boys 9- to 10-year-old 200 freestyle relay, as the team of Abe Schmitz, Contreras, Logan Kagigebi and Blake Schmitz finished first in 4:03.18.

In the boys 15- to 18-year-old group, Maverick Platt picked up the lone victory for Wisconsin Dells in the 50 breaststroke, finishing with a time of 0:35.36.

The Dolphins will continue their season on Saturday, with a home meet against Sun Prairie, beginning at 8 a.m. Wisconsin Dells is also scheduled to host Sauk Prairie in a Tri-County Conference meet on Saturday, June 22.
